Latinski naziv i familija : Althaea officinalis L. (Malvaceae)
Opis : Koren je debeo, razgranat, gusto prekriven mekim, belim dlakama. Stabljika je uspravna, a listovi trouglasti, plitko urezani, gusto pokriveni sjajnim dlakma. Cvetovi su pojedinačni ili u kratkim grozdovima. Listići spoljne čašice su dlakavi i šiljati, čašični listići su jajasti, a krunični listići su trouglasti, svetloružičasti ili beli. Raste u umerenom pojasu Evroazije, po vlažnim livadama, pored reka, na obodima poplavnih šuma.
Kao lekoviti deo biljke koristi se : Osušen koren (Althaeae radix) ili list (Althaeae folium)
Hemijski sastav : Koren belog sleza sadrži sluzi, asparagin, kalcijum oksalat, pektine, skrob, tanin, fenolne kiseline
Upotreba : Aktivni sastojci belog sleza povoljno utiču na smirenje kašlja. Koristi se i za oblaganje nadražene kože i sluzokože disajnih organa i organa za varenje, i kao sastojak čajnih mešavina kod upala mokraćnih puteva
Neželjeni efekti i interakcije sa lekovima : Neželjeni efekti nisu poznati. U slučaju istovremene upotrebe sintetskih lekova, sluzi iz belog sleza mogu umanjiti njihovu resorpciju.
